Race Description:
The course is set out in an M-Shape, allowing competitors to show their wave negotiating and wave riding skills twice.

A beach start, the paddlers will negotiate the surf and paddle straight out to turning buoy 375m from the beach. Rounding the buoy, competitors will then return to the shoreline and carry their board around a flag clearly located on the beach 50m to the right of the start line. Paddlers then re-negotiate the surf heading straight out to a second turning buoy 375m off the beach. Turning the buoy, competitors return to the beach and the finish line located 30m up the beach.

Race Categories:
1. Longboard 8ft – 10ft long and less than 3 1/4 inches thick
Male Open, 40+ Masters
Female Open

2. Shortboard Under 8ft long and less than 2 3/4 inches thick
Male U16, Open
Female U16, Open

Competitors can enter and collect prizes in only ONE category. Once a competitor has competed in the event, they cannot change categories.

Prizes/Medallions will be awarded to ALL RACE CATEGORIES (1st, 2nd & 3rd).

Race Confirmation & Race Kit:
Check-in for Race Confirmation and pick up your Race Kit from 6.00am – 2.00pm on Saturday 9th February 2008 or 7:30pm – 10:30pm on Friday 8th February 2008 at the Apollo Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.


 

Race Rules:
• Competitors must follow the designated set course, which is manned by water marshals and surf lifesavers.

• Competitors are only permitted to paddle once. No multiple category entries are allowed.

• No extraneous aids are allowed. This includes, but is not limited to fins and personal support teams.

• Wetsuits are permissible.

• Competitors will be required to have an official mark and race number on their arm, which must remain on the individual throughout the event. No competitor shall be recorded as a finisher, unless carrying the official mark and number on their arm.

• Organisers reserve the right to accept, reject and cancel entries.

• Protests must be made in writing and given to the Race Director within fifteen minutes of the announcement of the provisional results. All decisions of the Race Director will be final.

• Race officials shall have the ultimate and final authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without the risk of injury.

• Each entrant must sign the indemnity declaration on the Entry Form before the event. If under 18, the parent or guardian must sign. The organisers reserve the right to reject or cancel any entry at any time.

* Cash prize money is for the first 3 fastest male paddle times and the first 3 fastest female paddle times, in the Short Board Under 8ft category.

Cash prize money has been allocated based on volume of male and female entries.
